Even with the tattoo, I never really recognized him as Jun. He feels foreign to the guy I stalked around Viery with and blew a kiss to weeks later in Reach. Maybe comics weren't the best method to reintroduce him back into this new Haloverse. Jun's voice didn't bounce off the page. I tried imagining his voice but it sounded like any other guy could've said the exact same thing.
