I agree his end is an iffy one. On one hand, it's a cool idea, especially on the drawing board, in execution, it seemed like they realized that had too many Spartans for the last level and needed to wrap him up, and maybe a bit too quickly. Perhaps if the Scarabs had been presented in a more dangerous light, or in greater numbers, and his attack took two out or something. It was just a little quick and convenient to be very emotional.
Emile's death on the other hand actually hits me the hardest. It feels less like a cinematic and part of the battle, and the worst part is, it feels like I was supposed to have his back and failed. First time I played Reach, it was all about Jorge. Ever since it's always been Emile's death that really jabbed me in the heart. Maybe it was because I had actually started liking him by that point in the game...
