The Insurrection breathes a similar light to views in today's world. Anyone who is fights against a government or occupying force, lawful or otherwise, is perceived to be a terrorist and not worthy of respect.
We allow ourselves to forget that not all of them have planted a car bomb in the middle of a crowded street, full of street vendors, passing children, and pedestrians, or wished any harm to the innocents that inhabit the same land. They fight what they see as an imposing, oppressive force with their best interests secondary to their own goals or completely out of the picture. These combatants are no different from the revolutionaries in British America, the French kingdom, or Kai-shek's China, they simply possess more firepower compared to their predecessors.
Their cause is just, a noble heart, wishing only for the self-determination and right to govern for all persons, regardless of status, residence, etc.
Had I been born in the fictional universe of Halo rings and Spartan warriors, I could've very well taken up arms against the Terran's colonial aggression.
