The trailer's tone and atmosphere is MUCH different than Halo 3's. Halo 3's announcement trailer felt like an epic ending to the trilogy; you're going to stop the Covenant, stop the Flood, finish the fight. And there wasn't a whole lot of mystery to what was going on. At the end of Halo 2, you knew he was going to end up on Earth again to look for the Ark and stop the Covenant.
Chief in this trailer seems like he's abandoned all that he used to be, he's looking for purpose (of course I'm only getting that from the way he looks, and how he clutched Cortana's chip in his hand). Halo 4 ended in a way that didn't indicate that he would be in this situation, so it makes it a bit more intriguing. It didn't get me excited like Halo 3, but I am very interested.
