: Actually that term itself is quite laughable given heterosexual and cisgender oppression
: of queer people, and the significantly unicorn-level rarity that cis and
: hetero people face oppression because of those two traits actually occurs.
: Sometimes it's not fun when you can't see people like yourself in the
: stories you enjoy.
Quirel has already pointed out to you why the above statement is wrong. Generalizations go both ways, and you just did it right there.
I feel like no one wants to be honest with you, and I think that is a shame, so I'm going to take a risk here and tell you how I feel, because I genuinely enjoy our story based discussions, and I mean that with sincerity.
*takes deep breath*
I get that you feel frustrated about things you felt were better left ambigious.
You are totally alright feeling that way, and many of us with the fortitude to even join this discussion agree with you on some of your points.
But here's the thing, Griz, you're playing victim here, being defensive with comments like the bolded above, about gender issues, on a niche gaming website.
Of those of us that are left on this site, the overwhelming majority just want to talk about Halo.
That's all.
Even if we aren't 100% behind 343, we just want to talk about Halo.
I enjoy reading your threads (when they aren't choked with GIFs as a form of communication. This ins't buzzfeed. Or imgur. Or Tumblr.) when they are game play and *especially* plot focused because it brings life to the forum.
When a new book or comic comes out, you are usually one of the first to post about it and kick off a chat about the happenings in that media.
It is fantastic. And personally, appreciated. It is needed. It keeps this place...relevant.
Your OP started so well. I was happy to read it. (since the Novella isn't in print and that's the only way I'll get it) I knew that with you posting about it, it would lead into more of the plot, and I wouldn't be left in the dark. I could get a summary from a fellow fan, not just Wikipedia or something.
Then the tone changed, and you made it painfully awkward. If no one else will say it, fuck it, I will. I don't care.
You essentially shut down the topic, and silenced many people from wanting to chime in about the Novella.
You took the conversation, and completely steered it in a direction that the limited, remaining posters of this site don't know
how to react to.
Then it turned into an echo chamber of pretty much just you, and god forbid anyone challenge you on it, because then that person *must* be attacking you
persoanlly and challenging your cause.
No one is.
You got a handful of pointed responses, because you made pointed statements.
We just want to talk about Halo, and what's left of it.
I believe in the mantra of the right tool, for the right job. A time and place for all things.
I'm not sure that a small, Halo sub community, that sees so little traffic these days, is the right place to discuss such a serious topic.
I'm not saying it's the wrong place either.
What I'm saying is that, you made it awkward, and you brought the spotlight out.
I can't speak for all, but I can say that for me, it makes it incredibly hard to want to discuss anything, after that happens.
So I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings at all- before and now. But I totally saw where this thread was headed once you put it on the course that you did. And that is why you're getting some of the reactions you have here.
