They were fast and lithe: not heavy and plodding. You know how cats are soft and pliable but turn to coiled steel when you try to pull them away from a bird. They are just so really into killing things. They are small, slight animals but they are very strong when you try to pull them away. It is their total focus and intent that makes them so strong.
I used to play with my cat, ping silver foil balls across the room, play with some rolled paper on string, that sort of thing. She would be utterly focussed on what she was doing, so quick and so alive. When she stopped she would be all purrs and stuff. She really enjoyed what she was doing.
That's kind of how I saw elites when they fought. They even seemed to laugh when they fought you, they were really happy when they were fighting - right up to the part where they died.
I never thought that they hated me, the one thing an elite likes most is a worthy adversary, a good fight (one that they are sure they will win).
In my mind they don't fight because of philosophy, because of thoughts of face or reputation. They fight because they enjoy it, it is when they are most alive.
That's probably the biggest reason I don't like heavy ponderous elites. Its as if the devs who make them that way just have no imagination. In their minds to be dangerous a foe must be big and ugly.
But it looks like in the past Bungie didn't share that way of thinking. They thought of another way a foe could be dangerous.
