: Awarding points based on damage is a rich-get-richer mechanic that would
: stifle comebacks.
I get this thought process, but at the same time, the way it is now, there's no incentive to shoot the bosses. Why waste tons of ammo and time shooting and shooting the bosses when you can just sit behind a rock and wait for other people to do it and then pop up when he is at 3% and unload on him. It makes bosses this stupid nuisance where 99.9% of the damage done to him means absolutely nothing. And when only the last bullet counts, what's the point of participating in that 99.9%?
Using the method above, you actually have a reason to shoot the boss. Ever piece of damage that you do will get your team points. You have to work as a team to do the majority of the damage so that you can get the majority of the point. And you still have the option of pushing away enemies that are trying to kill them from a distance because by doing that, you secure yourself even more points.
