In Response To: Re: NOT Loving Forge! (SEspider)

: You're missing the point. It's a HUD interface. The user should not have to
: angle the camera elsewhere just to read the HUD. It's also not always a option.

I don't know what to tell you. I don't have any problems with it, but I also sit closer to my TV than is probably advisable.

: Yep. That's one of the the issues that keep throwing me for a loop. In Past
: Forges, there were separate options for adjusting the camera/monitor
: controls. Not anymore.

No there weren't. There should be, but there weren't before.

: Yes and no. When I'm looking at something, that happens to be in front of
: something else, it might select the wrong object.

Well then you're not really looking at that then are you? I will say it's unintuitive. The actual selection area is the tip of the middle finger of the hand in the icon. That makes as much sense as anything else since it's the closest graphical point to the center, but they could've just used crosshairs.

: How exactly would it "feel tedious and overwrought" when we are
: already doing it just to rotate and move it?

That would be because they're both tedious and overwrought, and we didn't have to hold a trigger to do that before. I definitely wouldn't to require everyone to hold two buttons just to select something because a few people are having issues.

: Yesterday, I somehow managed to select a number of ungrouped objects when
: all I wanted to do is move the camera.

That's sort of a feature, you can hold the button and drag the cursor over objects to select them all. (Supposedly that's why it's on the right bumper, but you could still do that less elegantly with it on A, or just select things one at a time, which would also eliminate having to deselect unwanted objects.)

: As a result, it screwed up my map and I had to quit and restart.

How could just selecting objects possibly screw up your map?

: Actually it doesn't. Wielding and grouping are two completely different
: mechanics. Just to for example, lets use real life objects. If you have to
: metal beams and you wield them together, then they will not come apart. If
: you instead took those two beams and grouped them together, then they can
: easily be taken apart. Be it by placing them next to one another, gluing
: them or simply tie them with a rope. The definition of wielding items,
: means making their join-ment permanent. In Forge, it's why the game gives
: you a warning when you do this. A group is basically nothing more then a
: box that contains objects, that can be removed later. As it stands, there
: is absolutely zero difference, in Halo 5's Forge, between grouping and
: wielding. Zero Difference

I'm telling you, and you've seen, there is a difference. When you weld an object to another object, in this game, they behave as one object for physics purposes. Groups do not do that. You can weld and unweld independently of grouping and ungrouping, it's right there in the object options. Things need to be grouped to be welded because then you can just select one option to weld and unweld everything. Because welded objects behave as one physics object, you shouldn't have any issues moving or rotating a welded group, so there's no reason to ungroup them.

: Nope. They are set to their own by default. The Tool Settings allow you to
: change it to World, Camera View, or back to Object. And it seems to be
: working properly again. But, unless I've missed it, this would be best
: effective if it was a D-pad option. I've found myself switching between
: all modes, by going to the Tool Settings. It gets tedious very quickly.

There isn't, but weirdly there is a d-pad setting for changing the rotation point when you hold the right trigger.

: Speeding up Forge Building was one of their biggest selling points.
: Some changes do make sense. Mostly how we move and rotate objects now.
: Without it, Grouping would be impossible.

I don't follow, what do you mean?
