Well it sure came off that way.
: I was going to come back in now that I've
: actually tried building things and say it's more finicky than I thought. I
: still think it's not that bad though.
: I never saw or heard of that item selection glitch before, that is weird. How
: often does that happen to you?
More then it should. It's also random. Some days, it's with just transparent items. Other days, it's solid, or both. Among the completely solid objects, Cylinders and Rings seem to have this issue the most.
"I still think it's not that bad though."
It is. I only recorded a little to prove it. If it wasn't a large issue, then I wouldn't be complaining about it as much. Nor would I have placed it at the end of the video, where it would be remembered the easiest.
: It's not about it being hard or taking a long time, it's about having to do
: it hundreds of times in the course of making a map.
Soooooo... Like we're already having to do now, to move a block that you've just spawned?
: It wouldn't, and it wouldn't prevent it either. It would not affect it.
I honestly don't understand how you're not getting this. The. More Time You Have To Select. The. More. Time. You. Have. To. Prevent. A. Accidental. Selection.
: A split second doesn't count for much.
But it does count.
: I'm finding I'm getting used to the controls-- enough that I've played around
: with button mappings and I go to the new controls sometimes. I don't know
: why you and Shadow can't get used to them, but I believe you and
: sympathize.
As I pointed out, in a reply to Hyokin, everyone is different.
I can't speak for other artists, but when I get use to working a certain way, it's very difficult to do the same thing differently. I might as well try writing with my left foot. Shoot. That might be easier for me. Except the cramps. Those foot and knee cramps are murder. lol
: I've had something like that happen, yes.
Another glitch to add to the list. Greeeeeeeat. <--Sarcasm
: Grouping does two things. It lets you move a set of objects all at once,
: and it lets you change traits of a set of objects all at once. Welding
: does those things and it makes objects behave as one larger object for
: physics interactions. There are many cases (mini-game cases spring to mind
: but there are surely others) where you would want to change the traits for
: things without wanting them to move together. There's also the fact that
: if a group consists of objects that are all the same type (say, spawn
: points), they will rotate in unison regardless if you have world-oriented
: rotation on.
Yes. But that doesn't explain why Wielding is labeled as a separate option and a big deal. It should be labeled as "Unison Physics" with a On or Off option. Not a entire separate category, different from grouping.
Wielding does need to be change to not Unwield, when you Ungroup it from non-wielded items.
The more I think about it, the more glitches I remember to list.
So I'll ask you, if you've encountered this one as well. When I have made a group, I change the parent item (something I've been doing in 3D for years now). It's needed for properly rotating with scripts. However, the change in parenting does not stick. It's clearly changed in the menu. But when I go to rotate or script a rotation, the parent jumps back to the original. I've tried selecting the desire parent first, but the feature seems to have a mind of it's own.
: That might explain some weird behavior I've seen manipulating welded objects.
: That would also rule out using template maps unless you make everything
: and then don't group anything before you save, and then group and
: duplicate and use structures, and then ungroup everything.
It would, I'm sure.
I keep forgetting about this glitch. Once again, because I'm use to just a thing. and have accidently moved or deleted small and large chunks of my map. It's one of the reasons, my new map is so small. Starting over on a build and then forgetting to ungroup/unwield becomes a pain and very frustrating.
: On a side note, I talked to someone the other day and described the new Forge
: to them, and they said that was a shame, because Forge was probably the
: only thing that would've brought them back (I described the good parts
: along with the bad but I think I did forget to say they were working on
: basically every problem with it).
I sure hope so. There is a ton of people that, on Facebook, that feel the same way. Going so far as to say Reach's Forge is better. Which it's not, by a long shot. The menu system has most of them confused. And many just refuse to learn the new controls. Personally, I can get past the controls. It's just going to take me time. But with all of the great new options and features, these consistent errors and glitches are ruining the experience for me. My Delta map (now cut in half and renamed The Spider Pit) took me one afternoon to make in H2A. And that's with me nitpicking over dumb details just for a proof of concept map. The new controls aside, the Halo 5 version has taken me almost a week, just to get to where I am now. Once again, which I've cut in half due to frustration.
Correct me if I'm wrong, and I probably am. But didn't 343, or one of the community forgers, mention that we would be getting a spartan to place on our maps for size reference? I can't find it in the menu. I'll check the videos again and link to it, if I find the mention. It sure would help a great deal. I didn't realize just how large my map looked, next to a spartan, until I saw a buddy run through it. It feels much smaller in FPS and Edit mode, then it looks.
BTW, they removed the option to back out of a lobby countdown. That means, for CCnight, you're going to have to make sure everyone is ready, before you click the start button. That or risk wasting a lot of time, but loading the map, and then quitting, and then returning to the lobby.
