Welcome to the club. We've got jackets over there, and the bowling team meets on Thursdays.
: 343i tries copying mechanics from other games. Does so poorly. Tries to
: introduce own modes at the exclusion of beloved ones. They're hardly
: played. Player activity drops off a cliff and never recovers.
: What to do? Stick to your guns and improve the implementation? Go in a
: totally new direction?
: Or ditch it all and try to re-create 'the glory days', instead? Yep, that's
: the one. Go with that.
Yes. I'm actually excited for it. =)
Don't think of it as reliving the glory days. Think of it as a tactical retreat to high ground, from which 343i can regroup and advance in a new direction!
Say it with me: Halo 4 had problems. Halo: Reach had problems. The introduction of an unequal playing field pushed Halo away from its strong points. By returning to the level playing field, 343i can focus on delivering polished and improved features instead of wowing us with an avalanche of new stuff.
: The stripped out, early Beta,
You mean a real Beta that lets them evaluate if what they have been working on will be a hit with fans. As opposed to the fake lower-case-b beta that most games get, which is just out there to build hype for the game.
: that is suddenly so vitally important (but wasn't for Halo 4)
Isn't it great! They can learn from their mistakes!
: If Halo were multi-platform it'd still be on the radar. Alas, it's a victim
: of the corporate game we call the 'console wars.' Always has been, I
: suppose.
Remember, competition is good for you.
