343 can't win.
They copy their competitors: They get slaughtered.
They innovate: They get slaughtered.
They revert to classic Halo: They get slaughtered.
I realise that it is literally impossible to please everybody, but I think a lot of people are still comparing Halo 4/5 to 1/2/3 and disliking it simply because it's different. Of course 343-Halo is different to Bungie-Halo, but that on it's own doesn't make it bad. I've seen a lot of genuine, well presented opinions from people who disliked Halo 4, but mostly it's just people saying they disliked it without giving a reason.
Both the Bungie games and the 343 games are great in many ways; some the same, some not. 343 have done things better than Bungie, and vice versa.
343 are trying to listen to fan feedback and use that to make the product better, but the fans are so divided and mostly negative that it must be so hard for them. I feel like the message from the community is generally "we don't like thing A" instead of "thing B would make thing A so much better".
Again, I'm over generalising and that's probably a bad thing; but I don't think it's a case of 343 not knowing what they're doing with Halo, I think it's more a case of the fanbase not knowing what it wants.
