: Hmm.. interesting. OK, so what's your idea of 'objective'
: evil, then? Is it merely acting (say, killing) without
: justification? It seems to me you could act with
: justification and still be evil. Like, the bad guys in
: Die Hard 3--Jeremy Irons can claim justification
: through Bruce Willis having killed his brother, but
: that doesn't mean he's not being evil.

I define evil in contrast to good. Good, in my book, is what benefits the greatest known whole, and what increases your knowledge of the whole. Evil is acting against that goal: either doing something which causes more overall detrement than benefit, or doing something which is detremental to one part of the whole without being more beneficial to the rest (ie, killing an innocent to save your life isn't justifiable because, while harm was prevented to you, it was just passed on to someone else, and thus detrement still occurred).

Not that this does not mean something like communism or a collective hive-mind or something is the ultimate solution, because the former obviously doesn't work beneficially to its own system in the long run (with humans at least), and the latter eliminates variety from the system, which is detremental for both aesthetic and survivialist reasons that I could go into.
