I agree that Bungie intended to portray the Leveller and the forces of the Dark as unflinchingly bad guys, "seeking not to conquer but to destroy" and all, but there is still the fact that we have no idea WHY The Leveller is trying to wipe out humanity.
Look at a scifi analogy I just made up:
It's late 2002 AD. A bunch of aliens fly in from the future and start trying to blow the human race up. We have no idea why, they don't communicate with us, all they do is start destroying us for no apparent reason. Obviously, they are doing evil and we are perfectly justified in blowing the crap out of them to save ourselves.
But what we DON'T know is, they came back in time to destroy us to prevent a horrible catastrophe that nearly destroyed their civilization when we discovered and activated some ancient artifact in space... I won't bother writing the rest of the story, because my point is made now. They're attacking us for no apparent reason, therefore they are the bad guys. But they actually HAD a reason, and we just didn't know what it is.
Likewise, in Myth, the Leveller is wiping out humanity... cuz that's his job? Who knows? (besides me) But the Leveller could be an integral part of Wyrd's designs for all you know (and I shouldn't say this, but in one 'official' version of the Myth universe - not saying which one - he is), and thus Alric banishing him from the world forever by throwing his head down the Devoid could be royally screwing up the Creator's plans.
My point is, we don't know why the Dark hates the Light, so we can't say they're NOT justified. Just that we don't know why they attack us so until given good reason not to we'll continue to kick their asses.
