: I suspect possibly franchise fatigue, and the public at large not being
: impressed by Halo post-Bungie. It's been a long time since Halo was the
: "game to have."
: I do wonder how significantly digital sales play into this. I bought digital
: (I buy everything digital), and so did quite a few other folks that I
: personally know.
: I also wonder if it's just the way the game is designed in general. It does
: feel like a relic of an older era in a way (a good way, in my opinion).
: It's very old school with a clear linear campaign, no open world, no
: always online, no progression system, etc. As much as a lot of folks rail
: against all of those things, the public at large seems to enjoy them (even
: crave them). I wonder if it's just people feeling like an 8 hour campaign
: and a week's worth of multiplayer wasn't worth the purchase (because let's
: face it, Black Ops came out and everyone was going to migrate to that
: anyway).
: Who knows? It's disappointing, though, as I feel like this is the best Halo
: game in quite a while, and I think it was pretty refreshing to just be
: able to jump into a clearly defined campaign without any
: leveling/progression system.
If it was franchise fatigue, Call of Duty would've been dead a long time ago. I blame Master Chief Collection putting a large dent into the franchise.
I'm also curious if this includes digital sales (I don't see why not). Halo 5 should have more digital sales than all those titles (I even bought digital, thankful that I did).
This is definitely a great Halo, and if the franchise is falling, this is the title than can help it get back to its feet.
