... I actually really like Reach's design of the Pillar of the Autumn. Having drawn both, I thought the new one preserved the spirit of the original while adding a hint more complexity to keep it in line with Reach's slightly different style in art direction. To me, it's close enough that the original and this new one can be be two expressions of the same thing. For example, if I drew the ship in a comic panel from afar, it might resemble CE's, and as I got closer in the next panel, I could describe it with more of Reach's details.
I could have done the same with the original CE Mark V and much of Reach's Mark V/B as well. A lot of the same shapes and designs, but with more inner details.
The Forward Unto Dawn in Halo 4 on the other hand is missing huge elements of the design and is literally a different shape/scale, as is the case with the new Mark VI armor. I can't just zoom in with new details - I'd have to draw something completely different.
