I think the story was a secondary concern; the goal was simply to get Halo on the silver screen. The Halo Movie has had a lot of false starts and the nuggets that have slipped through have been tantalizing. You can't look at the Landfall shorts, We Are ODST, and the Birth of a Spartan short and not pine for a Halo film. And since a live-action Halo film isn't going to happen, 343i is trying the next best thing: anime, webseries, and now a full miniseries helmed by by the same guy who did Alien and Black Hawk Down.
: Everything about Nightfall screamed all the worst qualities of a low-budget
: project. I don't know how anyone looked at these performances or even the
: script and saw something worthy of putting Halo in the name. There is no
: hint of storytelling fundamentals or the genres it attempted to mold
: together in its narrative. Nightfall had about as thin of a tale to tell
: as some of these Escalation issues.
: They should have saved the effort and budget for an

Nobody complained before.
I mean that. Escalations, Legends, Spartan Ops, they may not be as bad as Nightfall was, but they had the same problems. Nightfall is just one of those without any of the redeeming qualities.
