: Huh? Why *wouldn't* we ask for a writing explaining those
: details? By refusing this 'tome' we agree to stay in a
: state of ignorance to those details.
No - by refusing it, or rather not requesting it (I don't think it would be given anyway, even if we did request it), we agree to find those details ourselves. It's like, we're going out for a hike, and then suddenly some guy with a teleporter pops in and says "Hey! Why walk? I'll beam you to the top of the mountain!".
The fun in story analysis is the ANALYSIS. I would be fine with someone layout out the Tru7h behind the contradictory truthes we're arguing about, basically just a consistant retelling of everything we already know, but I don't want every last hidden detail revealed. There would be nothing to do then - the Asylum would be dead.
It's like if God popped down and gave John Q. Gradstudent the One True Grand Unified Theory Of Life, The Universe, And Everything - all of those physicists, philisophers, and everyone, would have nothing whatsoever to do. Sure, they're all journeying toward the truth, but the journey is what matters.
I don't think anyone ever expects to fully unravel every secret of the universe - personally I think such a thing is logically impossible - and the same thing applies to the Myth world. We're trying to uncover the Tru7h, but having it just handed down to us would spoil the whole purpose of our being here.
