: I have a little scenario for you to think over.
: Let's pretend that Bungie existed on their own and that
: they were going to write Myth III but for some
: unfantomable reason all the people that worked on Myth
: I and II in Bungie quits. The new recruits speak with
: the old people and learns a few things about what they
: would have done with the story.
: Do you really think that this Myth III would be less
: canon only because those new people hadn't thought up
: the story themself?
Yup. The deciding factor is whether they have the information possessed by the original creative team, not whether they happen to work for the same company. If Bungie hired Kevin Smith to write "Myth III: Jay and Silent Bob Conquer Muirthemne," I'm afraid I wouldn't take its story info to imply anything about earlier games' story, even if there was nothing actually contradictory in it.
Provided, of course, Meggs is wrong, and there's meaningful canon to begin with.
: Or are you saying that just
: because they work for Bungie, it's canon, but MJ:s new
: story isn't canon, because they aren't Bungie.
Nope, I'm not saying that. Although I'd point out that ten million scenarios have been made by people who aren't Bungie, so you'd better be a bit more exclusive than that.
: In either case, you don't make sense.
A thoughtful and well-reasoned argument. I salute you!
