You took this post in a completely different direction than I anticipated. Bravo.

I remember the complaints about how the prequels went out of their way to include characters from the original series.* At this point, I'm not sure it's happening with Halo. Lasky, Palmer, Locke, Petra, and a number of other characters are important and prominent because they're connected to the Chief or connected to people who are connected to the Chief. So far, with the exception of Buck, it's just the Anthropomorphic Principle at work. 343i is trying to tell an epic tale, so the main players are each going to have their own separate story.

*I thought it was neat that Anakin built C-3PO and R2-D2 saved Princess Amadala, but I was nine years old at the time.
