Ned Stark was a core character. So were Rob and Catlyn Stark. And Tywin Lannister. There's a reason Catyln's resurrection was cut from the show: bringing characters back from the dead is lame. When death is permanent, it carries narrative weight.
I'm not invested any less just because my favorite character died.
