One example of him having a valid reason for doing something stupid does not make him a good character. On the whole, Del Rio is one of the worst written characters in the entire Halo series, is cliche at its worst, and completely loses impact as a character because he can't be taken seriously at all. 343 tried way too hard to get you to dislike this guy. They pretty much beat you over the head with the fact that he shouldn't be liked. Showing, not telling. They told, big time.

Why? Because he doesn't serve to worry the player. At all. Why? Because the only thing missing from his scene was him jumping up and down and stamping his feet and yelling at everyone to listen to him over and over again. He was an absolutely ridiculous character that also held zero consequence. Why? Master Chief said screw you, went on his way, and no one on that ship tried to stop the Chief from leaving. And then the next time you run across the ship, Lasky is in charge. It was that simple. You're entitled to your opinions, and you can find significance or even like the character of Rio, but to pretend like he's a good character is one huge stretch of the imagination. Also, this post is in no way trying to excuse Reach's characters. I've had my say on those in the past, and I think you could do away with half of Noble Team, so yeah. I'm half and half with you, but damn, defending Del Rio's writing and characterization? C'mon. :P
