This is one of the best posts I've seen you make. I mean that genuinely, and I completely agree. When I ask my staff to do something, and they do it, I thank them. Should I have to? Well, I guess not, after all it is their job to do what I ask them to as their boss. They aren't going above and beyond, just doing their job like they are supposed to. But, I've found that the more I thank them or praise them for just doing what is expected of them, the more they are encouraged and led to really go above and beyond, and do even more than what's expected.
