...so? It's what I expected too.
Difference is, I was pleasantly surprised to find it has changed.
The 'if it isn't broken, don't fix it' argument only really applies when something is almost flawless.
That wasn't the case before. It still isn't the case now, but overall it seems to be an improved compromise over the previous system
: Sometimes it takes a while to get new players in though, and sometimes
: they're worse than the ones that left.
: Anyway it doesn't seem to have had a big effect on people idling/being
: AFK/AFC. What really gets me (and I meant to bring this up weeks ago) is
: for some unfathomable reason they took out whatever it is that boots you
: to the lobby if a game ends and you haven't been playing the last few
: minutes. I know because I had to go do something while I was in the middle
: of a game, so I left, thinking if I didn't make it back soon it would put
: me in the lobby and at least I wouldn't inconvenience anyone else, but
: when I came back I was in another game, and when I asked my sister, who
: had been nearby, about it, she said the game ended, I was put in another
: game, and then that game ended and I was put in another game. I don't
: even want to think about how many "players" on Halo 4 at any
: given moment are just controllers sitting there.
Sounds like your own bloody fault to me...
The whole benefit of the system now is that if you have to go away and do something, you can just drop out of the game and you are likely to be replaced by someone who is willing to play very quickly (especially in the more populous playlists. I primarily play slayer and while I've sometimes started a game in a 1v4 scenario, I wasn't on my own for very long at all. Usually my whole team is back up to strength within 30 seconds).
: The join-in-progress system Halo 4 has means players may or may not get a
: choice in what they play beyond the playlist, and I have a fundamental
: problem with that.
For what is, by definition, less than a single game?
I'm afraid you would need a significantly stronger case to even get a concession from me on this one.
And to nick something from the following comment.
: and I don't like abandoning my team, even if I don't know them. Maybe
: it's just as much of an abandonment if I leave and don't come back as if I
: just quit, but like I said I didn't know how long I'd be, and anyway it
: feels worse.
I'm sure they were absolutely thrilled that you stuck around as a sitting duck for the other team to easily pick off again and again, rather than have someone else join who was, you know, actually playing.
Though I can only speak as a slayer player.
Even on the old system, if you were going to have to go AFK, you have to remember that unless it's literally just for a few seconds and absolutely no more than 2 minutes, the team is better off if you quit.
Otherwise, not only are you contributing nothing, you're giving the opposing team an easy target.
Like it or lump it, 99% of players don't even consider being sporting and passing on the free kills by ignoring blatant AFKers.
