There's never an "objectively correct" definition. Human language only ever works because people can sometimes agree to use things somewhat consistently between themselves.

Which is why in discussions, people should always put an effort into engaging people and figure out where they're coming from. Tons and tons of internet arguments devolve into mindless rage between two people who are in almost 100% agreement with each other.
