: This needs to be explored in detail. Jul should be one of the primary
: antagonists of Halo 5. Let the Didact sit this one; with Requiem, the
: Composer, and his ship destroyed, which means he may have no means of
: replenishing his Promethean forces, and he's probably too injured to do
: much of anything. John should probably be Consider bringing ONI in as a
: new antagonist. Sarah Palmer and her hand-picked S-IVs could be tasked by
: ONI with bringing down the "renegade" Chief and Halsey; having
: her make a face-heel turn would give us the satisfaction of killing her
: ourselves in an awesome fight against other Spartans. The lack of human
: enemies in the Halo series has been surprising, considering that the
: potential for them is there. Bring back the Arbiter and Half-Jaw.
: Considering having the surviving S-IIs actually be in the game.

They should also get rid of, or seriously downplay, the magic genetic predestination stuff that's been tossed around in Halo 4 and the Forerunner books. I can accept this happening to Chakas and co. in ancient times because that has no bearing on anything else, but when brought to the modern era it mangles one of Halo's former core themes: humanity used to prevail because of our own ingenuity, resourcefulness and tenacity - there was even a point made about humans being innovative vs. the Covenant being imitative when it comes to technology. Not so much anymore: now we're using Forerunner tech we don't understand, just like the Covenant used to, and on top of that none of our accomplishments were actually our own but instead they were genetically predetermined by a godlike entity in the distant past.

As far as we know, every important scientific discovery in the history of mankind is no longer thanks to human innovation, but the Librarian planting it in our genes. It's a very disturbing thought because it completely destroys the idea of humans being capable of accomplishing great feats and overcoming obstacles by themselves. It also has devastating implications on free will and character agency - are the characters acting out of their own determination or are they under a space magic spell?

343 could make a saving throw by revealing it was humanity all along, the Librarian just made up the geas nonsense for the sake of motivating us or something. I'm fine with some minor genetic tweaking going on, but not the preposterous idea that everything about the Chief, for example, was planned out over 100,000 years earlier.
