: It's not a huge deal, but it seems like something that used to be valued in
: gaming, is no longer. And like you said, a lot of the older consoles were
: NOT backwards compatible, but that's because the technology wasn't there
: for that. Then the technology for that did arrive, and now it's taking a
: step backwards.
While maybe not a "huge" deal for myself, it definitely is a needless lack of something that could have been easily remedied through software or hardware emulation. Even the 360's selective, spotty, emulation of OXbox titles was appreciated, but it was a system to be *improved upon*, not *dropped entirely*.
: To me, it's sort of like Halo 4's Campaign not having Theater mode. There was
: this great technology being used years ago, that just doesn't work with
: the architecture of the current generation any longer because they no
: longer value that as integral part of the system.
Exactly how I feel about that too. There were pretty similar trains of thought behind dropping these features it seems.
: I'm not bitching because it's fun. I want to see the Xbox One succeed and
: outdo the competition, but a lot of what I saw yesterday doesn't have me
: convinced. I love playing my Xbox- it's an easier system to use, it has
: Halo, and I have more friends on there than I do PS3 or Steam. I don't
: want to give up on it.
Right on. I don't "bitch" because it's fun, I don't even "bitch" at all. However, I really do want them to have a more attractive option! I'm upset that it looks like I'm going PC and WiiU this generation and Sony/Microsoft aren't doing anything to make me think twice about it. As I've said elsewhere, I hope this blow up over the XBone causes positive changes for the system, and for gamers as a whole.
