Well, I don't know about how things work in the UK, but here in the US, buying used has a lot of benefits. If I buy used from Gamestop, not only is the price lower than MSRP, I can also bring the game back in 7 days for a full refund if I don't like it. With a new game, you can't completely recoup all your costs, as you cannot get a full refund and if you trade it in, you get less than what you paid for (they're a middle man, after all, and use games is where they make most of their profit). So, buying used incurs far less risk for the consumer. While I mostly buy new, there have been several games I would have not have bought new, and I only got them because I had the option of buying used.
