: Television itself makes it way more complicated. Either it's all actually
: streamed from the internet (which has it's own massive limitations if you
: want to reliably watch live TV) or you're going to have to plug your
: aerial/cable/satellite into the console itself, and that seems like it
: could be a massively complicated process between nations and even regions
: within a given country.
: It's just very odd. I mean, what are they going to do in the UK? Have a built
: in free-view box? What about Cable (Virgin Media) or Satellite (Sky)?
: They can hardly have the actual hardware for those different systems inside
: it... and if it doesn't, then it can't even replace those boxes, so what's
: the point?
The jokes about calling it "The Xbox America" and "Xbox One Country Only" suddenly make a lot more sense. How can they brag about all these apps and functionality when they are limited to a very small install base? Just seems backwards to me. And if these functions are left out of the console in other regions, you're essentially paying a huge premium for only a fraction of the promised functionality.
It's a nifty idea in theory, but in practice, unless they can guarantee equal or at least similar service in most major regions, it seems like the wrong direction to focus their console on.
