I think you're not winning any points with the self-congratulatory tone. The tweaked cutscene is OK.

I think you didn't need to post it twice. I think this did occur to them and they chose a different route. Personally, I see where you're coming from, but without those lines, to me the scene is calling out for a little more expression-- you could put in a different line, maybe body language or a heavy sigh would cut it if you did it right, but it feels like there should be something more than what's in your tweaked version.
