: dream about which is something great authors do. They don't do it the
: tacky way and leave a big "the end?" at the finish and they
: don't do the 'happily ever after' either. They finish the main plot, and
: they leave it to the imagination of the reader or player to make their own
: adventure going forward.

Stories end. Franchises, or storyworlds, especially those with still untapped potential, remain even for decades.

Halo promised to many to become one of these such franchises, if not already. Halo continuing isn't "milking", it's not continuing a story past its prime... it's simply continuing to tell stories within the universe that has already been imagined, ripe with many many plots and arcs only ever mentioned in passing, or hinted at, if even that. It's filled with moral dilemmas, epic wars, 'little people' and personal strife, and politics is a given.

Halo's not done. It just needs the right people to tell the right stories in the right way.

Good fans love this.
Selfish fans ignore this and take advantage of the Name for personal gain.
Great fans never let go.
