: To see that direct separation acknowledged and addressed would do wonders for
: the state of the Halo universe right now. I feel like thus far, we've been
: told that the new IVs and their style are "how the spartans have
: always been, like, totally." Similar as to how so much of the
: Universe aesthetics were completely changed without an in-universe reason.
: I just want the old respected as they add the new.
We did catch a slight glimpse of that dynamic when we see the Chief walking amongst the others on the FUD. Definitely want to see more of that interaction explored!
I think one of the evolutionary problems with the spartans is that in-story, multiplayer was first seen as training. Now (by the IV's) it's seen more like competition and gaming - to better 'connect' with real world Halo multiplayer fans. :(
I'm on the side of the fence that really doesn't care for the 'connection' as motivation. I'd prefer to see their characteristics explained and believable within the universe, as per having the difference classes of Spartan interact with each other and recognize this difference. Don't just make it some form of natural progression of that class of soldier. It's not.
John was always from the "best" of the class. He's written as the hero, now tragic hero, and should never be overshadowed by others, not in the Halo universe. It undermines, really, the origin and whole theme, imo, of the Halo universe and franchise.
That doesn't mean there can't be heroes, and while it might be trope-like, it's really about the only way to keep the franchise 'alive', as it were. Master Chief IS the epitome of the Spartan soldier class. (despite this new geas aspect to the plot)
