This is the only part of your post that needs a response. Go read this book. Like right now. You're a fan of Bungie-era Halo, and this is, in my mind, the final chapter of Bungie-era Halo. So much stuff from the original games get explored in this, and if you like mysteries… you'd be making a big mistake not to pick up this book. It's the best Halo novel (IMO), and absolutely the best Forerunner novel. Reading the other two and not picking this one up is really hurting you more than you realize. I say that as a friend and as a longtime Halo fan.

The cover was marketing to increase sales of the game after Halo 4. The Didact can be pictured the same way you pictured him reading the other books… after all, it's the same author carrying on the same story.

If your interest in Halo is waning, end your time here on the final, beautiful note that is Silentium.
