I love this statement. I was thinking something along the lines of this while reading this entire thread, but I couldn't find the words for it.
Should we immediately allow academically deficient people or people not willing to put in the time to get an education into top schools just because they decide they want to go to them? No.
Should we allow amateur baseball players not willing to put in the time to develop their skills into the MLB just because they decide one day that they want to be a professional baseball player? No.
Should we disallow professional poker players from competing in poker tournaments simply because they have more experience at the game? No.
I could go on all day, but I think my point is clear. Honestly, the whole "time" argument (and I use the term 'argument' lightly) is unfounded. People willing to put in more time to do achieve something SHOULD have the better chance of actually achieving something. Thinking otherwise is akin to having an entitled mindset, in my opinion.
