: Looking at last week's Halo Bulletin, I couldn't help but feel that
: StrongSide's overbearing win to get that truck was unfair. In addition to
: the fact that professional gamers have infinite advantages over even the
: most hardcore players, it also gives them an enormous boost to make it
: impossible to even shadow.
: Think about this--a casual gamer like me, I have a job, a girlfriend, a life
: away from Halo, and more importantly, porn. ;-)
: Hardcore gamers have the dedication(or insanity) to take days off work to
: participate in contests like these, or just to play. Neglecting said job,
: possibly same for the mate(or none at all), rarely a life outside
: Halo.....and I don't really know about the porn thing in their case.
: Professional gamers--their job and their lives is Halo. Girlfriend?
: Groupies. Outside lives? Refer to previous statement.
: Porn?
: ...their dick don't work.
: I'm joking! :-)
: But honestly, it's like Bill Gates hosting his richest people in the world
: contest...in like, Uganda or Haiti.
: If I had the money, I'd seriously buy this "Infinity Truck" and
: give it to someone more...well, maybe not "deserving", but
: someone who doesn't get opportunities like this every single day.
: And no, I don't mean me. I hate trucks. Would've loved to get the Walk-On for
: 5, but again, Job, life....and you guessed it!
: But anyway, I'd love to hear the responses on how ignorant/ass I'm being.
: Besides, I didn't rant today, so that's a good thing! :-)
In the grand scheme of life, there are many more "unfair" opportunities that people will have over others than just beating a few thousand kids at Halo, which I should mention Strongside's been doing for the better part of 8 or so years now. There are people who are born and never have to work a day in their lives because they were born into massive wealth. The world isn't about "right" or "fair" or "justice" beyond what humans themselves cast onto it. Can you dunk on LeBron? Can you knock out either Klitschko brother?
You wanna see what pisses ME off? Look at this Kickstarter for a freaking wristwatch smart phone expansion: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/597507018/pebble-e-paper-watch-for-iphone-and-android
They asked for $100k and people gave them TEN MILLION DOLLARS. 31 people on this Earth gave them more than $10k each, which funded them over 3x more than what they asked for, and which doesn't even take into consideration the 68,898 OTHER people who continued to fund them beyond that.
Now these people were going to buy the product at some point anyway, but they were using Kickstarter as a store, which is supposed to be at its core a crowd-funded initiative and is dangerous to assume a finished product will be given out at the end of development at all. It's a reckless use of a large amount of money, the vast majority of which could've been put to far better use in society than funding a piece of plastic that works as a second screen for your iPhone.
