Violence in video games, and shallow-mindedness.

OK, perhaps I'm misunderstanding your post, and if so I greatly apologize, and will be happy to apologize in more detail later... but if what you're saying is that you won't play Oni because it doesn't have blood in it, then you're a very, very, very shallow person. If this isn't what you're saying, then again, I apologize, and you may feel free to regard the rest of this post. Having said that...

I can see a game without blood only as a good thing. When I'm playing a game I don't give a crap about realism. I prefer real life for realism; I play games to get away from that. I play games because I don't want realism. People talk about Soldier of Fortune and how it's great because, for example, "you can shoot a guy in the groin and he'll still be alive, and he'll actually groan in pain and beg you not to kill him because he has a family! Damn, man, that's so cool..." What the hell is cool about that?

Or how about this one: "Damn, man, this is so slick! Look, in this game you play this kid who can make people's heads explode!" (Galerians.) Or this one: "The coolest weapon in this game is without a doubt the cerebral bore, which allows you to drill a hole into someone else's head, thereby making his head explode." (Turok 2.) Or this one: "I love Quake because when I shoot a guy with the rocket he explodes into these bloody pieces and blood goes flying everywhere!"...a week later, watching the Halo E3 trailer..."Man, this is stupid. Look at this; that guy got shot and he fell over and tumbled over the edge of the ledge. That's so damned unrealistic it's not even funny. Pathetic, man."

What the hell is the point of all this? God, man, what purpose does blood and violence serve in a video game? All it does is draw attention to video games from the media; it doesn't make a game any more fun, and if it makes a game any more realistic then I'm strongly against it, because real life is nowhere near as much fun. God, Soldier of Fortune... why in the hell would I want to play a game like that? What enjoyment could I possibly take out of watching a person die in extreme pain and sadness? What enjoyment could I possibly take out of watching someone die in a "realistic" manner?

If you want that, why don't you go out and shoot someone in the freaking head with a real gun? You'll have your blood, you'll have your horrified screams of pain and confusion as the person dies. You'll have the family, at the funeral, devastated, deprived of their loved one, not understanding why it happened. If you get caught you'll have your jail time. Can't get more realistic than that. I might bring my uncle on here to back me up but he's dead; he already got shot, he already got killed.

I just don't understand this. I constantly see posts on here and on the Halo forums and in magazines and on other bulletin boards crying out, "We want more blood, we want more violence." It makes no sense and I swear to God I hope I never understand it.
