First off, I'm not gonna put too much faith into the "fir'bolg in every mission" theory. Just because there is a fir'bolg archer in every mission, it does not mean he definately had to be one of them. Bungie just put in archers in every level to help out in the unit balance when it comes down to game mechanics. Same thing with how the numbers were exaggerated from the journal to the actual mission.
Besides, you have to remember the Fir'Bolg are foreigners. It says in the game manual that they were enemies of the human nations of the west before the war, but quickly changed their minds to ally with the legion to fight off the Fallen Lords. I doubt very much a Fir'Bolg even speaks and/or writes the way the narrator did. With the names the Fir'Bolg have, you have to guess they wouldn't know every name of each city of the western and eastern empires. From the sounds of it, I dont even think the Fir'Bolg were involved in the war for the entire 18 years. I don't think they joined right away, yet the narrator says he has been fighting for all 18 years.

I'm not gonna say the narrator was any one unit of the game. Not a warrior, fir'bolg, or even a journeyman. I'm just guessing he was some sort of soldier among the legion that had some type of a higher rank than most of his comrades. He definately didn't sound like a journeyman. Cause the way most things were, the journeymen had quite a bit of knowledge of lore and history, and even probably talked in a certain manner of their own. I'm pretty sure the narrator was just a human from one of the western cities, that may have been somewhat of higher rank from fighting and surviving all 18 years of the war.
