If any of you are familer with millitary history you will know that the best men for command are often the last to get it. The Journal Writer could have been a man of import, being one of the few surrviving men of the original armys, but not an offical comander. As the leagon moved in its final campains the "offical officer corps was shourly being decimated, so that by the time they made it to the Dire Marsh there was no real command structure save the heirarchy of exsperiance. The Writer did not complain much about commanders, as commen solders offten do. This could imply that the officer corps of the leagon had been dead even before the game starts and they only had time to rebuild the rank and file. This would make it possible for a man with a low rank, possibly no more than a sargent or capten to command large numbers of men in a tight situation.
He has to be human, from where I do not know. He refurs to every other culture besides western humans as speret groups. I never recall him calling calling humans, well, Humans. On the other hand he calls every one else by their proper names, Fir' Bolg, Dwarves, Journy men. I hesitat to say if he may be a northman or not, as the term Berzerk was a class of warrior, and not the name of a speases. Then again, so was the Journy Man, or Heron Guard, which ever you like.
Anyway that is my wild and disjointed theory, dont beat it up too enthusiasticly.
