I agree with everything you wrote except for this part. I wasn't old enough to play original metroid when it came out so I always knew samus' gender up front, and it's never put me off. Does the knowledge that your character is a pretty white girl really bother you that much? I usually choose a female character if given the option though, so I guess that's just my preference.
