Sort of.
Classic Mode is the Silent Hill HD of Halo games. It's an interesting reference in some respects against the new visuals, but it would never be my choice for a solid playthrough. Maybe if I didn't have the original game on hand.
Halo 2 would likely suffer fewer problems, though. Its graphics tend to be much better-preserved in ports/emu than Halo 1's.

Hopefully they can make it instantaneous*. Or at least pause the screen with a hard transition rather than using a fade. Losing visual continuity was pretty dumb for a comparison feature.
*If it was a 360 memory size thing, XB1's 8GB might help. Keeping everything in RAM all the time would be relatively cheaper than on 360.
