That's another good point. Cable TV you pay for. So why are we inundated with commercials? Pay service does not inherently mean Ad-free service. As I mentioned in a previous comment, there are other reason to have ads. There has to be a balance between a decent service price for customers and the cost of running the service - sometimes a pay service still needs to offset cost with more ads, otherwise the customer's price might go up; there's also the 'networking' aspect, allowing products and companies to get their wares in front of eyes - ads aren't always just about revenue, but also helping to get product news out there. Ad-free means higher price, as well as a shuttered environment from any outside exposure. Sure there are places for that (eg buying ad-free apps), and it's up to produce/service; but it's not nearly as simple as "I pay some arbitrary fee, therefore I should never again see ads!" =/
