I'm not getting a PS4 just for Destiny, though. There are other next-gen titles I'm interested in, and enough of those are in the launch window to get me to be an early adopter. Buying a console is a long-term investment, and I'm willing to plunk down $400 on a PS4 on launch day (and I haven't bought a console at launch since the Dreamcast nearly 14 years ago) to get next-gen-only titles as well as the obviously superior version of any cross-gen titles, rather than waiting two or three years for a price cut, missing out on many next-gen titles I'm already interested in and playing downgraded versions of cross-gen games in the meanwhile. If I'm going to pay $60 for a game, I want the best possible version. I think I'll be getting my money's worth by being an early adopter of the PS4 (and TBH, $400 is a fair price given historical launch prices; adjusted for inflation it's about the same as the OXbox and PS2, and less than the PS1, PS3, and 360).
Also, I've had some experience with cross-gen titles in the past. Burnout Revenge sticks out in my memory in particular; it was great on the 360, but it looked and played noticeably less well on the PS2. The difference is not trivial. There's no way the current-gen versions of games like Destiny, Battlefield 4, and Watch Dogs will look nearly as good or be able to play as well as the next-gen versions.
