The disparity is the fact that you're doing this alone (or maybe with one other person?). I decided to play alone yesterday and see how it went. The match finding times are highly inconsistent (ranging from nearly instant to 10 minutes), but I consistently found a game. The majority of the time, the games worked (only a few times did the game refuse to load and kick back to lobby).

The moment you add one other person (or if you dare to add 3+), everything goes to hell. I managed to go in with just rowboat, and for some reason we could chat with everyone in pre-game lobby, yet when the game started we could only hear each other and one other person on the other team. The dude on the other team said he only heard one other person on his team and me (not rowboat). This happened on two occasions.

We also kept getting split from each other post-game (not the majority of the time, but plenty), and we also kept having games fail to load. Eventually it got back to the usual point of having to restart the game entirely in order to hear each other or join each other. The same applies in Customs, though it's a bit smoother on that front. We managed to load Forge up with no issues.

I'd recommend playing alone if you're having almost no problems and enjoying it. You'll have a fairly okay experience that way. The moment you start going the friendship route, you may want to rage and talk trash on the level of what you've been saying about Destiny (or worse).
