As show-runners have recently learned (see Lost, X-Files) and out own favorite (Halo)...if you even think your show will have avid fanbase and a long run, you better have your endgame and players fully fleshed out before you even get started.

They're thinking about 10 (50?) years going forward. There is no way to reconcile all that has come before with all that will come. I very much feel for those that dedicated so much time and effort to tracking the EU, but I (ashamedly) rejoice at it's demise.

There were some things I felt were good, but others were just plain cheesy. Not only Palpatine clones, but Darth Maul clones too. And the Yooshon Vong (no, I have no idea how to spell it) arc just plain tossed out everything that was fought for prior. The New Republic? Trashed. The Force? Not really a factor. Coruscant? Utterly destroyed.

So, I have some interest in these new movies, primarily because Abrams is involved, Lucas is not, and the Vong are gone.
