Actually, the so-called "reboot" of Star Trek was anything but. The intent of what they tried to achieve (make the new Trek movies an offshoot of the original Trek universe started out wrong and even when the new powers that be established how their universe is meant to unfold, they're not even playing by their own rules.
If you tell me how your new universe comes about from the old one, fine, you have me as a dedicated viewer. When you then go in both movies so far and break your own rules to tell your story, I can hardly be enthusiastic for the stories you tell. You failed.
