I'm the minority here by saying I enjoy the prequels in my own way, and having grown up with them I do prefer them in certain ways over the classic trilogy. That said I did enjoy a lot of the EU published since then and kept up with all sorts of the branching out they were doing for the past decade and some.

I guess this goes with my prior comment, but only having started liked Star Wars from 1999 onwards, I attempted reading the books and comics from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s era and was very turned off by the content it produced. I did not enjoy the Thrawn trilogy one bit. I don't know what it was but it all felt dated and in a lot of ways was a lot more mystical/fantasy-like rather than the more sci-fi elements of what the latter content produced.

Which is why I've kept up to date with everything since and have rarely turned down any new Star Wars stuff. I especially love the comics: KOTOR, Clone Wars, anything that took place in and around the original trilogy (IE: Empire/Rebellion), Legacy, even Infinities was fun. So it's definitely a big disappointment to see them throw out all of that, but the canon definitely was not managed properly from the start.

But I really enjoyed The Clone Wars and really can't praise it enough (nor stop wishing Disney didn't cancel it), and I'm really glad both that and the upcoming Rebels will be the first "new" pieces of official canon along with the movies.

It's strange though, even though Star Wars is really a big favorite of mine, on occasion more so than Halo, I'm was never as concerned for the canon of that as I am currently with Halo. My faith in the franchise definitely took a beating after 4, but I hear the new comic series is good (not gonna read it till I buy the tradeback) so a lot is riding on 5 for me.
