: I disagree with your points that those things shouldn't be negative, but I
: also think that people focus too much on what someone should be. Yes I
: think that all things should be balanced. You SHOULD get upset over
: injustice and serious issues, but the phrase "easily upset" to
: me implies something different than that, it implies someone getting angry
: over something small. Just like being a "snitch" has more
: implications than just obeying rules. Now I bring those up not because I
: disagree with your overall point, I just wanted to make a point that there
: are more than just the general ideas that can have universally desirable
: traits. I'm fine with focusing on the idea that there shouldn't be gender
: stereotypes, but I also think there are universal traits we can all agree
: are good.

Take a step back -- the critique isn't about painting those traits as negative. Rather, it's about how teenage boys interpret those traits and what words they use to describe them.

Objectively, a phrase like "acting like a girl" is totally meaningless. It's only when it's assigned cultural baggage that it becomes both offensive and illustrative of how boys are taught to see girls. So the interesting question isn't "What words do boys use?" It's "WHY do boys use these words?"

Being a "snitch" is a bad thing, sure. But what type of behavior are teenage boys calling being a "snitch?" How are they defining the word? I bet there is a lot of behavior that society should be fine with or neutral towards that's on the outside of that box.
