: A lengthy read, but well worth it if you care about Halo.
"If 343i must make Halo lean on another shooter, let it be Quake. Let Halo mimic the power-up collection of Unreal Tournament, let it have zany vehicles like Tribes. These games are in a different spectrum of shooter from CoD or CS: GO or Titanfall, a spectrum that more closely resembles what Halo is about. There is no future for Halo in squeezing into the space between twitch military shooters, but there exists a market for gamers who want a simplified, consolized shooter--there's a market of people who want to play games like Halo."
The article is mostly spot-on, with the "common turn-offs" list essentially being everything that I've said repeatedly in one spot.
The strong push towards the "pro-team" shows that vehicles clearly take a huge backseat to the gunplay, and I predict here and now that the number of non-forged maps that feature vehicles will not only be small, but the vehicles themselves will have paper-thin armor. Why? Because nothing frustrates a "pro" player more than having to carry a non-precision loadout, so having to ditch his BR/Pistol for a plasma pistol or grenade launcher (of which we haven't even seen) is something he won't ever want to do, so vehicles are either out, or they're vulnerable to small-arms.
Bungie did vehicles right in the gun-play-heavy Destiny, because while small-arms can bring them down, and the pilots are vulnerable to precision damage, the driver has the power to make himself less of a target, and he can do serious damage in a short time. But vehicles in Halo don't work this way outside of the Ghost, and the Ghost has a hard time hitting speedy targets. Ground-pound, dives, hover... All of these things will wreck the one vehicle that has historically specialized in being anti-infantry. The only other vehicle that meshes with the new direction is the Chopper, but good luck ever seeing that brought back...
