BUT, there is way too much of it, too much of which is basically useless. Watching the footage back makes it almost seem like he's playing with AI rather than other people.
Stuff like: 'Let's go to work!' or 'Work together and we'll take this' is totally useless. Yes, it's a team game, people probably get that we should work together. It should be cut, or changed to something that might actually be a useful tip to someone, somewhere. E.g. 'Spread out' or 'Don't bunch up' (relevant to the 'Clusterluck' round-ending grenade toss in Game 2).
I heard a Spartan say: "Drew first blood" - like - omg - who the hell cares? Tell us when you've actually achieved something worthwhile.
I also heard one of them say 'Time to send them back to basic training', which is such a stupid thing to say. Losing to a superior team, in a friendly training match, wouldn't... omg.
"Nice shot" also means nothing coming from an AI voice of a real person playing as a Spartan teammate. I'd cut that.
The voices are localised in space with a naturalistic volume fall-off: which makes them difficult to hear from a distance, decreasing any utility they might have and contributing to it feeling like background noise a lot of the time. Given this, it also seems weird that you can't hear the enemy at all. Perhaps they should keep the localisation, but after certain distances, boost the volume and apply an electronic effect like it's being sent over the radio and mixed by your helmet.
Also: if they did localisation for real teammate's voices, that'd be super cool. Especially with headphones or surround sound set-ups.
Steitzer, as much as I love him, is also talking way too much. Calling out way too many medals, many of which are utterly trivial. For example: "Brawler" for melee kills, "Reversal" for coming back from shields down, "Perfect" for killing without missing a shot (I think). Those things should be their own reward. "Wingman" (assists?) and "Distraction" also sound a bit patronising when called out.
Score and player death announcements in the Crossfire 1-life, multi-round gametype need work. I was having trouble figuring out what he meant. Not good.
Here are some quick ideas:
Score: Instead of saying 'one to one' say instead "tied at one round all' or simply "One all". For score differentials, something more like 'Blue leads three rounds to one' or 'Your team leads...' and 'Enemy team leads'
Round wins: bit of a disconnect between Steitzer's 'YOU won the round' and the text that says 'Your team won round 2.' Could communicate more in tone: "BLUE TEAM - ROUND WON!" and "Red team, round won' (or vice versa). Better yet, since he's going to announce the score immediately after anyway, cut saying who won that round, say instead 'Round Over', then go into the score announce. Should be obvious to the players who was winning the round anyway.
Player deaths: "Four on three" and "Four on one" I found confusing. Overly concise and trying to pack too much information in there, I think. How about only announcing the identity of the deaths, and leaving inference + HUD to the player wants more? So, "Red player down" and "Blue player down", with tone altered depending on whether they're on your team or the enemies. Better yet: "TEAMMATE LOST' and 'ENEMY KILLED' with appropriate 'LAST MAN STANDING' (already in there :) ) and 'ONE ENEMY REMAINING'
Finally, 'Enemy team facing elimination' should be made more relevant to you. A switch to 'One round to win!' would be better.
