So, calling it now: the PS4 has already won the eight generation. MS has some good exclusives lined up (but nothing that made me go "I need an XBO nao!"), but so does Sony, and with the PS4 being the obvious consumer-friendly choice, it's likely that the average gamer will prefer it to the XBO. It already has a larger potential customer base by not needing an internet connection, it respects the First-sale Doctrine, and it is priced competitively. It will also allow for self-publishing of indie games, which makes it more attractive to developers of such titles. All these things combined gives it a tremendous edge, so while the PS3 and 360 are currently running neck-and-neck, in all likelihood, the PS4 will trounce the XBO. In fact, if the Wii U rebounds enough once Nintendo starts releasing more big-name exclusives, it wouldn't surprise me if the XBO places third.

Unless online requirements and DRM don't bother you, then the only incentive to buy an XBO is if you absolutely must have its exclusives. As for me, I've made my final decision. I only have enough disposable income to be an early adopter of one system, and Sony earned it. The PS4 is a day-one purchase. I enjoyed the Xbox brand for 12 years, but if I bother getting an XBO it won't be for quite some time, probably not until Halo 5 is released, and hopefully by then MS will have realized their mistake and rescind their anti-consumer policies.
