: The ball-carrier could use Sprint all the time. Evade was disabled, however,
: when the ball was picked up.
: One Grifballer discovered early on (about two weeks after the game came out)
: that you could roll immediately after you picked up the ball, giving you
: a super-speed boost. It was a tricky button combo, and if your screwed it
: up it often resulted in your death and a turnover. League Grifballers
: loved this move, called the "barrel roll", and embraced it as a
: part of the game .
: When we asked Bungie to include Grifball Dash in the Grifball playlist, they
: said no. They said that the barrel roll was a glitch that shouldn't be in
: matchmaking. In 2011, when 343 took over the Reach playlists, we asked
: them if we could include Grifball Dash in the playlist despite the barrel
: roll. 343's response was "Sure! You guys know best." We got it
: added the very next playlist refresh.
: 343 seems to be taking a similar track for the Halo 2 button glitches.
I did not know anything about this. This is actually really cool. It's nice to see 343i take a bit of a more relaxed approach to these things. "You guys know best" is spot on. If the community finds something like this and decides it's fun, then let them [barrel] roll with it.
